Why Yoga

What Is Prenatal & Pregnancy Yoga?

This is the question many moms-to-be ask us – “What is prenatal yoga, and how is it different from regular yoga?”

Prenatal yoga (aka pregnancy yoga) is the modified practice of yoga adapted for the needs of pregnant women.

Unlike regular yoga, prenatal yoga focuses on:

  • Gentle stretches and trimester-safe poses
  • Breathing (pranayama) techniques to help with labour and stress
  • Pelvic floor awareness for better core strength and stability
  • Relaxation, restorative work, and meditation for a calmer emotional state
  • Mind–body connection to help prepare for the birth process

In short, prenatal yoga is a nurturing practice that goes beyond exercise to help strengthen the body, calm the mind, and care for the baby.

Best Time of Day to Do Prenatal Yoga

The optimal time of day for prenatal yoga depends on personal preference, energy levels, and schedule:

  • Morning (after breakfast, not on an empty stomach): Energising and metabolism-boosting, and sets a positive tone for the day.
  • Midday / Early Afternoon: Great if mornings are not possible or too hectic to attend in the morning—a refreshing and restorative break.
  • Evening (before sunset): Perfect time to release tension and prepare for restful sleep.

Avoid practising immediately after a meal or late in the night. Listen to your body and needs. If you’re feeling fatigued or nauseous, consider a gentler session or take rest.
